Stress eating

In our most recent class we learned that it is difficult to lose weight when you are stressed. I’ll just say that was not news to me. More helpful:  It is important to identify the signs and symptoms of stress (fight or flight response) and learn how  to break your association with food as a comfort during stressful times. We may not turn to food immediately as a comfort, but we may seek it later to help “relax” and decompress. Now we are getting somewhere. Recap from our leader: Last week, we talked about mental and emotional health and how to be present, or mindful. One idea we shared was to take a few minutes to slow down and pay attention to the way our body feels in a given moment, which can help us to be more aware of our surroundings and can improve our mental well-being. I’m doing great with the fasting, eating healthy and exercise. This mental side is going to be the challenge. Hey - I didn’t think I’d be running again and using this heavy of weights, so no reaso...

Photos of me from April (1st pic) and last night. Both at the zoo. Last night there was 10% less of me.
Life got busy friends. I learned a few things over the past few weeks: It is more difficult to stick to a healthy lifestyle during busy/stressful times. AND it can be done! I was using the occasional beer and bar food as a coping mechanism. When I stopped doing that, I had to find new, healthier coping mechanisms. Boundaries are important - it is ok to say, "I can do this much, not more." Turns out that works. I've been reading Mel Robbins book, Let Them. It's excellent.  Support is critical - thank you all for checking in, whether it is here or on our zoom calls or texts. Sarah and Ryan are great at holding me accountable in a supportive way. When you lose weight in your face, your wrinkles show more!! Yikes. I'm trying new wrinkle creams - any suggestions??? In another update, I started jogging. We will not call it running. It feels so great! I forgot how great running is both physically and emotionally. My trainers are super excited. They want me to sign up fo...

Nutrition

So much information. It’s all helpful and it’s a little overwhelming. This chart is a good overview. I’m doing great with the exercise part  doing 3 workouts per week and minimum of 300 minutes of cardio each week. Now I have to work on nutrition on the non fasting days. We got a lot of great info on meal planning and prep which I’m going to try to implement. A lot going on!!

Exercise

I missed last weeks class on exercise. I’m watching the video from it. Great stuff! Of course the magic pill is exercise.

Last week was busy ( worked 50 hours) but I stayed on plan. Taking time off this week. Today was the first workout I rated a level 8 out of 10 on difficulty. The trainer was so happy they finally challenged me to that point. I saw this online and it resonated with me. I think it also applies to cancer, grief, and other challenges. Love you all
I am so grateful for your comments!! Also grateful to my children. Sarah did my workout with me on Saturday. Both kids checked in this morning to see how my workout went. I ate some unhealthy food on Friday and felt terrible on Saturday. That’s good motivation to eat right. Some days I’m tired but I’m pushing through.
